Melisande Thwick is thick in the head

Jane and I were invited to a garden party at Melisande Thwick's last Saturday. It was rather lovely, but she is more than a bit dimwitted. She simply hung on Jessalyn St. John's every word and laughed at all her jokes. Most annoying. But she did get her comeuppance. One time Jessalyn said something about the time that was not a joke, but Melisande laughed and said, "Oh, Jessalyn. You are too, too clever by half." Jessalyn looked at Melisande as if she had rutabagas growing out of her ears and then said frostily, "Really, Melisande. I merely asked after the time." Then she walked away, leaving Melisande to gawp after her. Bless Jane for engaging poor Melisande in conversation to cover up her gaffe. I do think that Jane is an angel.
