Melisande Thwick is thick in the head

Jane and I were invited to a garden party at Melisande Thwick's last Saturday. It was rather lovely, but she is more than a bit dimwitted. She simply hung on Jessalyn St. John's every word and laughed at all her jokes. Most annoying. But she did get her comeuppance. One time Jessalyn said something about the time that was not a joke, but Melisande laughed and said, "Oh, Jessalyn. You are too, too clever by half." Jessalyn looked at Melisande as if she had rutabagas growing out of her ears and then said frostily, "Really, Melisande. I merely asked after the time." Then she walked away, leaving Melisande to gawp after her. Bless Jane for engaging poor Melisande in conversation to cover up her gaffe. I do think that Jane is an angel.

James can be so tiresome

Much as I adore James, he does get a bit tiresome. He seemed rather shocked when he found out that Jane and I had been to London and back several times on the train without supervision. Goodness me, it's a new century. One would think it was the dark ages to hear him go on.

Uncle Augustus Comes in Handy

Yesterday, while we were having a little nuncheon on the south lawn, I and my dearest friend Jane were attacked by wasps. Fortunately, Uncle Augustus was dining in the nearby rose bushes and dispatched the unwanted insects post haste. Although one does not like to advertise one's avuncular relation's newly acquired tendencies, one comes to appreciate his abilities in such circumstances.

I think Sir Alastair is an old stick in the mud. So there.

Jane's new outfit

Jane has the most adorable new traveling suit--all in rose colors, of course. They go so well with her dark hair and eyes. I am positively green with jealousy. It quite puts my ice blue outfit to shame. But then, Jane cannot wear ice blue and I can. So I suppose we are rather neck and neck. Now, if only James would notice how well I look in my suit. Sigh.

Coming Out Party

Uncle Augustus behaved abominably at my coming out party and now I am implicated in a kidnapping. What am I to do?
